Andreessen Horowitz, often known as a16z, is an American venture capital firm which invests mostly in software companies. Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by software entrepreneurs and investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, its $36 billion in assets under management make it the largest venture capital firm in the world according to one estimate.1 Most of these assets have been invested in over 900 companies and some assets have been used for speculation on cryptocurrencies.2 The firm has made profitable investments in Facebook, Twitter, Coinbase, Skype, Airbnb, and many others, making it one of the most successful venture capital firms operating today. These investments have likely made tens of billions of dollars in profits for the firm’s limited partners and billions for a16z itself.
